Cascade Cycling Club

"Come Ride With Us"

Cascade Cycling Club is committed to improving the safety side of cycling. They put together a bike safety campaign to teach and encourage youth the safety side of cycling. This includes a bike safety rodeo, along with reward certificates for youth caught using good bike safety. With safety an important issue to cyclist, this club has developed a “complete street policy” for Cascade, which was passed by the local city council. This made Cascade the first community in the state of Iowa to pass a Complete Streets Policy which develops safer streets for all users including pedestrians, cyclist and motorist.

Cascade Cycling Club has been very active in the development and improvements to the Don Coohey Recreational Riverview Trail. They have completed a lighting project that included 26 ornamental light fixtures. They also completed a trailhead project at the Lincoln St. access, which includes a pavilion, drinking fountain and parking lot. The club is committed to continued improvements of the Don Coohey Riverview Recreation Trail and is currently working to extend the trail to the south so it will eventually connect to the Cascade City Park Complex.

The club usually puts together group rides during the summer weather and tries to schedule at least one weekend a year for some riding on the Root River Trail system in southern Minnesota. All people are encouraged to join the Cascade Cycling Club for some fun and exercise. Single memberships for 2009 are $10.00, and family memberships are $15.00.
