The Cascade Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Volunteer Ambulance Service is a local non-profit provisional paramedic ambulance service that provides 24/7 emergency and non-emergency ambulance service to the Cascade community with financial support from the Reiff Funeral Home, the City of Cascade, and the Cascade community.

The volunteer ambulance staff consists of 2 paramedics and 15 Class B EMT’s (Emergency Medical Technician). All are trained in CPR and pre-hospital trauma life support. Several members are PALS (Pediatric Advanced Live Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certified.

The Ambulance Service runs with two fully equipped and fully supplied ambulances - one primary and the other as backup. The primary ambulance is equipped with a 12-lead EKG (Electrocardiogram) for advance cardiac care.

The Volunteer Ambulance Service is dispatched by Dubuque and Jones County Dispatchers via 911 and covers an 136 square mile area in and around Cascade in Dubuque, Jones, and Jackson counties. In 2008 the Ambulance Service responded to 195 calls.

The Ambulance Service purchases a majority of its advanced life saving equipment with money earned from its annual pancake breakfast, garage sale, and community donations. In recent years fund raising monies have enabled the Service to purchase an electrocardiogram unit for advanced cardiac care and a Med-bed Gator for extreme terrain responses and transports.

The Ambulance Service is very active in community outreach. Its members volunteer their time and life saving expertise to train and certify local groups and individuals in First Aid, CPR, and Basic Life Saving. Members also volunteer their time for standby emergency medical services at the Cascade High School football games, the Cascade High School Cross County Invitational, and numerous other community events and functions.
